Groundbreaking for New High School Scheduled for June 4th

Groundbreaking for the new Sun Prairie High School is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, June 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the site of the future school on Highway N, south of Angell Park.

Community Facts

For anyone not familiar with Sun Prairie, here are some quick facts: Sun Prairie is a community of over 30,000 located immediately Northeast of Madison, Wisconsin. Sun Prairie is consistently one of the fastest growing cities in the State of Wisconsin, and has been rapidly growing since the late 1990's.

The location offers easy access to the amenties of the Greater Madison area and the University of Wisconsin while providing a proactive, business friendly environment near the area's primary transportation modes. The City of Sun Prairie is located on U.S. 151, a six-lane highway serving as a critical business link between I-39/90/94 and the Fox Cities. The City's fourth interchange was just opened in 2006. The 2009 traffic count for this highway was 44,000 cars per day.

As a municipally owned utility, Sun Prairie Utilities provides highly reliable electricity while historically averaging 10 to 20% lower rates than investor owned utilities in the area. In addition, they provide telecommunications access through high speed fiber optics to several commercial and industrial customers in the City. Sun Prairie is a member utility of WPPI Energy.

Several major employers call Sun Prairie home, including QBE, Village Hearth Bakery, Veyance Technologies, Royle Printing, Madison Kipp Corporation, Wisconsin Distributors, and Trachte Building Systems.

Sun Prairie is home to the fastest growing retail area in Wisconsin with more than 2 million s.f. of retail planned for its Westside Neighborhood along the Highway C/Grand Avenue corridor. Anchors inlclude Costco, Target, Woodman's Food Market, and Copp's. Additional development sites are available. The Sun Prairie Business Park is one of the most successful light industrial parks in Dane County. In addition to being home to several of the previously mentioned companies, it is also home to Hallman Lindsay Paints, Soderholm Foods, WPPI Energy, Palmer Johnson Power Systems, and Badger Graphics.

Downtown Sun Prairie is a rapidly changing area with newer housing options, new restaurants, and specialized retailers. It is regularly referred to as a model for other communities.
